Blanket Chest Redo with Wood Filler

I really like old blanket chests.
I have seen some that are actually selling for really great prices, but I have not bought one because I knew I first wanted to paint the chest that I already have.
Here are some inspiration pieces from Pinterest.

Here is my blanket chest.
I received it as a graduation gift from my mom 22years ago a couple years ago.  It is an Amish made chest and I truly love it.  It was a special gift from my mom.  The only thing I really don't care for now is the wheat design.  I am a shaker style gal. Very simple and plain and what some might think boring.  It truly is a struggle for me to have prints in my furniture.  I don't like busy.
So I decided to fill the holes in with wood putty.
I gave it a good sanding.
I then painted it in Benjamin Moore's Carters Gray.
I then stained the whole piece in Minwax's Dark Walnut.
I added different hinges to match my Hutch
 And here it is
 More Plain :)

  1. Now that turned out lovely. Last Saturday I visited an area settled by German's in the 1800's and many trunks were painted.
